EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING THROUGH WORKSHOP CLASSES

As we are now well emerged from the grips of the covid pandemic, which was one of the most difficult and challenging periods in most of our lives, some interesting developments have come about, and one of those has been the return to self-education and mentoring.

To put an historical perspective on what is now happening, let’s look back into the history of education. As society developed, the process of education was simply the passing along of information and skills from parents to children and from craftsmen and artisans to apprentices. But as early as 2000 BC the formal school or institutional education was developed. During that period only a limited number of privileged individuals were hired as scribes to be trained in reading and writing to become teachers. And at that time the information to be disseminated, among only the most privileged students, was determined by the elites of that period. We’ve certainly come a long way where in modern times, and even in the most remote parts of the world, there is public education available to nearly all, even to the poorest and most disadvantaged among us.

Fast forward to the great challenges of the pandemic when many schools around the world were closed, moving students away from institutional education and back to self-education and mentoring. Stuck in our homes, with schools closed, self-learning and mentoring through internet searches and YouTube videos, and long conversations with close friends, family and mentors had become the new model of education – SELF – LEARNING. But of course it was actually a return to the past.

In the Socratic dialogue, the Republic, Plato famously wrote: “our need will be the real creator”, which was translated over time into the English proverb ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. And so it was, that in those unprecedented times of the pandemic, out of necessity we returned to Self-Learning.

But Self-Learning without guidance can be a lonely road to nowhere. How often has our impulsive curiosity led us to a quick google or YouTube search and then into a maze or absolute overload of information or mis-information. Some people are very fortunate to have the great abilities of self-guidance and motivation, but most of us do not. And for those of us who do not have these abilities, we, especially,  need guidance.

So we’re now back in schools learning, and we once again have the necessary guidance back from teachers, councilors and mentors, and thankfully we have our social interaction back, which is also a very important part of learning. But stuck in our homes during the lockdowns, many of us began to learn new things, whether for hobbies, career advancement or business. So Self-Education will continue to be an important aspect of our overall education in general, but for this we do need guidance.

WE CAN BE YOUR GUIDE TO YOUR CONTINUING PATH OF SELF-EDUCATION

Simply, from our interesting range of Techno-Craft classes, you decide what you want to learn and we guide you through our simple, straight-to-the-point, hands-on workshop classes.

Our classes are based upon Experiential Learning where you are not sitting in a chair staring at a teacher, but instead you’ll have your own station or position in front of the tools or equipment used for the instruction.

For example, in our entry-level 3D Design and Printing class each participant will sit or stand in front of an individual 3D printer where your own project will be printed. First you’ll learn about related Caution and Safety; you’ll learn how to set up and calibrate a 3D resin printer; you’ll learn how to prepare resins and other related materials; you’ll learn how to render, slice and edit an existing 3D project file to prepare it for 3D printing; and you’ll take your finished 3D printed project home with you.

These Work-Shop classes will be limited to about 5 students per class, so the needs of each individual can be met.
